Visit from Mom

We had a nice week long visit with my mom. Last time she was here we didn't have a chance to explore much of Austin since it was over Christmas and we were busy celebrating the holiday with family in town. This time we shopped, lunched at my favorite "Walton's Fancy & Staple", of course, drove through downtown, visited the state capital, listened to live music in the park, frequented the pool, experienced the bats, saw a movie and still had lots of time to just hang out and relax! Thanks for coming to visit, Mom!

We discovered the pool at our gym is the perfect place. Not crowded at all, the temperature is just right and bonus - convenient clean bathrooms!

Enjoying a snack on the grass (it's actually turf but is super soft like carpet!)

Heading out on the bat boat for a tour of the Austin bats

View from the boat looking up. There are roughly 750,000 pregnant female Mexican free-tailed bats that call the Congress Avenue bridge home during the months of March through October. After they give birth in June/July there will be over 1.5 million! They fly out at dusk every night to consume almost 1/2 their weight in insects.

Video of the bats leaving the bridge. Pretty amazing!

Wow, cool bat video! And I love how Alli is just as fast on the carpet as she is on the tile in her skates! Looks like a fun week!
